Synth

OVERVIEW

Synth, short for synthetic magic, is an extremely dangerous drug that grants its user enhanced magical abilities. At the beginning of Book 1, Fury Axtar warns Bryce to stay away from it.

  Synth was originally manufactured by Redner Industries under the premise that it would speed up healing and elevate magic. During synth trials that were kept highly confidential, it was revealed that when a high dose of synth is injected into Vanir, they become insurmountably powerful and rip anything in their vicinity to shreds, including themselves.

  Bryce and Hunt experience a conflict when Hunt, Justinian, and Viktoria try to buy synth from the Viper Queen. Hunt admits that they wanted to inject themselves with the synth to try to overthrow Micah and free themselves, but that he had changed his mind when he learned what it was capable of. The Viper Queen ratted them out, which leads to Micah crucifying Justinian, condemning Viktoria to a small box and throwing her to the bottom of the ocean, and cutting off Hunt's wings (a punishment referred to as the "Living Death").

  At the end of Book 1, Micah Domitus reveals that he leaked synth onto the streets as a party drug and he killed the Pack of Devils deaths by forcibly injecting Danika with a high dose. While trying to utilize the Horn, he also injects Bryce with synth in order to repair the broken Horn that had been inked into her back.
